Options Beyond Cooking

It’s 6pm, you’re just getting off of work and stepping into your car only to realize you are famished…

First mistake…

Letting yourself get to the point of starvation. We are less likely to make “heart healthy & nutritious” decisions in this state of mind. Keep some healthy snacks in your vehicle to hold off hunger until you can get something better to nourish you through the night.

Second mistake…

Setting yourself for failure by not having a plan set in place. Certainly makes fast food look tempting or an expensive sushi date for 1 or cereal gets takes the place of a quick dinner.

Let’s be honest, this scenario happens to all of us.  Now, for me, I know that I can go home to a decent pantry and whip something up to take the shape of a dinner, but I get it. I understand the temptation of a quick meal.  Give yourself some grace!  If this scenario happens off then it’s time create a plan of defense. If you don’t your energy and billfold will start to take a hit (if they haven’t already).  I have a couple of suggestions:

  1. Keep convenient foods on hand. I prefer the fresh varieties of salads one can find at Trader Joe’s, Central Market, Whole Foods, Sprouts, etc. Figure out how many days you dash out without a plan in place and start picking up foods to fill in those gaps.
  2. Invest in a meal service.  There are ample meal services popping up in major cities throughout the US.  Some even ship nationwide! Don’t fret, I’m doing some of the legwork for those of you who live in some of my favorite cities.

Meal Delivery Services (Lists are not complete, so feel free to help me add to these cities or other cities!)

Nashville

San Diego

Virginia Beach

The goal, give yourself a break!  We are not in the 1940′s and cannot be expected to manage all the demands and cook every night. Fortunately businesses across the US are popping to help alleviate some of the stress–so stop feeling guilty, too!  Do it once or twice per week, choose wisely, and feast at home as a family!
Feast wisely~
